4th generation (4G) technology

What is 4g?

In telecommunications, 4g is the fourth generation of mobile technology. A 4g system provides mobile ultra broadband internet access. Here is a useful article that i gathered my information from.
. http://www.pluggedin.co.uk/article/4g-mob. ile-technology-what-you-need-to-know-and-how-to-get-it

Whats the difference between 4G and 3G?

4g uses the tc/ip protocools that power the internet.4G system provides mobile ultra-broadband Internet access.  Recently Android and Windows-enabled mobile phone devices have fallen in the 4G category. According to IMT-A, 4G mobile devices must be IP-based and able to provide data speeds of up to 100 Megabits per second (Mbps) when the device is being used while moving and up to 1 Gigabit per second (Gbps) when stationary. 3G guarantees minimum speed of 144 KPS and up to 400 KPS, however in this modern society that is not fast enough. 4g should guarantee no buffering whilst watching videos and instant downloading of music and HD movies. Offcom says it will need to reach 98% of the population and 95% of the country by the end of 2017.

social networking and communication

Social Networking

Social Networking has grown massively in a very short space of time. The first site were set up in 1995 called www.classmate.co.uk.  Also one of the first social networks was friend united in UK in 2000.This area has grown with the development of Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, MySpace, Google Plus+ etc. The most popular social network sites is Facebook, twitter and Google plus.

Social networks also can be an essential tool for e-commerce as most business use the internet to sell goods for their business. Clever businessman should use social networking as an opportunity to market their business and can send out large batches of messages to people in one hit - this is achieved much more easily sending to members of a group than sending from your individual profile

Social networking allows me to keep in touch with family and friends that live far away by sharing updates, photos, videos, and messages. Family members and friends can stay connected even if they live across the country or the world.
Also a social networking site can be a good way to make connections with people with similar interests and goals. I have personally made new friends on Social network sites by sharing interests that i have in fitness where we have discussed different fitness programs.I find that it can be a way to connect with people that I  may not have had the opportunity to before.
Most importantly, social networking sites offers people the opportunity to create a positive self-image. The profiles gives you a chance to create the image of themselves that you want people to see by putting you best qualities on there. This shows that you care about you reputation and what people think about you.

However a danger to being on a social networking site is that scammers use social networking sites to trick people into downloading malware. A common tactic is to use social engineering. Social engineering plays on human nature to get results. For example you may have a friend send you a link to a video and the link will tell you have to download a type of software to view it. This is the virus that can harm your computer.
Also identity theft can be easily done by gathering information on people’s wall and is very addictive and could be procrastination if you need to do stuff.

Facebook

Facebook is a social networking service launched in February 2004, owned and operated by Facebook, Inc. As of September 2012, Facebook has over one billion active users, more than half of them using Facebook on a mobile device.
For a small  business it is important to expose your business, facebook can be stepping stone to do this. It is also a free way to market your business, so If you make use of not only the Pages application, but also many of the other applications, you will find great, user-friendly tools to market your services and products and promote what you do. Facebook offers you the possibility to create ads and target them to a specific age group, gender and location. You can also track your ad’s performance

Here is step by step guide to how to set up your
Facebook page for a business.

Write a short paragraph about your business so people understand what you do.
Set a memorable web address for your          Page that you can use on marketing material to promote your presence on Facebook.

The service rapidly gained worldwide popularity, with over 500 million active users as of 2012, generating over 340 million tweets daily and handling over 1.6 billion search queries per day. Since its launch, Twitter has become one of the top 10 most visited websites on the Internet, and has been described as "the SMS of the Internet Unregistered users can read tweets, while registered users can post tweets through the website interface,   SMS, or a range of apps for mobile devices.

Google +

The digital divide

The digital divide

Ict has transformed the way we lived. It has brought enormous, educational, social and economic benefits to those who have it. In Africa it is estimated that in July 2005 less than 1.8 percent of the population used internet, in contrast 68 percent in north america.

This graph shows that the developing country internet usage is slower than western society this could be because of economic factors.  Rich nations can bridge physical obstacles, and for examples take electricity, takes electricity across the mountains and ravine, whereas this may be low priority of for poorer nations. Furthermore economic factors alone do not determine the extent of the digital divide. If there is no steady electricity supply it is not easy to use the digital technologies that are so reliant on.

This is a map showing internet usage percentage in the united kingdom. It shows you that the south of England have a higher percentage of internet usage, whereas the north have a lower percentage. This could be because the north of England is not as rich as the south.

Why is there a digital divide?

Economic prosperity is a major factor if a country has a modern technologies in society. A poorer country will be more concerned than survival rather than modern technologies. A developed economy can afford to devote energy and resources to research new developments in technology and has the affluent customers to purchase the new digital economies. On the other hand a poor economy has a poor technological infrastructure, which makes it difficult for them to improve their technology. Furthermore rich countries can bridge physical barriers, for example takes electricity across mountains and ravine, whereas this may not be a priority for a less economic developed country.

E-government

What is e-government?

E-government is digital interactions between a government and citizens via the internet.

Democratization:One goal of e-government will be greater citizen participation. Through the internet, people from all over the country can interact with politicians on blogging   and interactive surveys will allow politicians or public servants to see the views of the people they represent on any given issue. chat rooms  can place citizens in real-time contact with elected officials, their offices or provide them with the means to replace them by interacting directly with public servants, allowing voters to have a direct impact and influence in their government.

Environmentally friendly: Having online interactions with the government would lesson the need for hard copy forms, therefore having less

Speed, efficiency, and convenience:The government allows citizens to interact with computers to achieve objectives at any time and any location, and eliminates the necessity for physical travel to government agents sitting behind desks and windows.
